As human’s we tend to attach our self-worth to people’s judgment of us because it communicates to us how we are being perceived. We also attach our self-worth to objects we possess according to the value given to these objects by our circles of influence. The combination of these two can create a conflict within us if our sense of self-worth is not aligned with our personal values.

Our values address our self-esteem in various ways which explains why our self-esteem is impacted after experiencing trauma. Thus, after experiencing trauma, your goal from therapy is to address your self-esteem. But how can you achieve that?To address self-esteem issues effectively, you need to identify your personal values to reconstruct your belief system (what you truly believe about yourself and your potential). Therefore, you need to draw your values from unpleasant memories so you can identify them, articulate them, and align them with your actions.
